National Heroes Day

Barbados’ National Heroes Day is recognized on 28 April and celebrates the life and achievements of 10 of its most notable citizens. These are Grantley Adams, Errol Walton Barrow, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Frank Leslie Walcott, Sir Hugh Springer, Clement Osbourne Payne, Charles Duncan O’Neal, Samuel Jackman Prescod, Sarah Ann Gill and Bussa - the legendary leader of the slave rebellion. Events and celebrations take place in Hero’s Square in the heart of Bridgetown.

British Airways Football Legends Invitational Tournament 2011

Football fans shouldn’t miss out on this chance to see footballing veterans like Roberto Di Matteo, Gianfranco Zola and Alan Shearer take to the field alongside the likes of Manchester United’s Andrew Cole, Steve McManaman, Liverpool’s Jason McAteer and Arsenal’s Paul Merson. They’ll be going head to head in the inaugural British Airways Football Legends six-a-side tournament at Kensington Oval. It’s all in honor of charity, with the money raised going to National Sports Council Primary Schools Program, in aid of sports in Caribbean schools.
