Local crafts and gourmet produce are probably your best buys. Salamanca Place is a good spot to start in Hobart and there's a huge market here on weekends where stall holders usually grow what they sell. Regional markets worth investigating include The Market in Penguin and Evandale open-air market, a 20-minute drive south of Launceston.
Macquarie Street and Liverpool Street are home to boutique stores, along with Bank Arcade in Hobart. The central business district hosts the usual chain shops and department stores.
