Adelaide, South Australia — Shopping

Shopping in Adelaide, South Australia

Adelaide offers plenty of opportunity for shoppers in the city center. The pedestrian-only thoroughfare, Rundle Mall, is Adelaide's largest shopping precinct, with over 500 shops. The Central Market, between Gouger and Grote Streets, is the largest fresh produce market in the southern hemisphere, with over 80 specialist stalls. The market is open Tuesday 0700-1730, Thursday 0900-1730, Friday 0700-2100 and Saturday 0700-1500.

Adelaide is the center of the world's opal industry. Stones are sourced from the South Australian desert towns of Coober Pedy, Andamooka and Mintabie. At the Opal Gem Factory (38 King Williams Street), you can not only buy opals but also watch the jewelry being made.

South Australia also produces most of Australia's wine, and some of the best is available for you to try and buy at East End Cellars, at 22-26 Vardon Avenue.
