Galle Literary Festival
The Galle Literary Festival allows visitors the opportunity to appreciate the works of Sri Lankan and international authors, take part in literary discussions and enjoy other activities. Set in and around the UNESCO World Heritage city of Galle, writers from around the country and the world come together for an international celebration of writing, photography, music, ecology, architecture and food!
Navam Perahera National Day
Navam Perahera is Colombo’s grandest outdoor parade on the events calendar, commemorating the country’s independence on the 4 February 1948. On display are many displays of Sri Lanka’s traditional forms of art and dance. Dancers and drummers from around the country join together to take part in a magnificent procession of more than 100 beautifully decorated elephants for National Day. Visitors wanting to enjoy this special day on Sri Lanks’s calendar should make sure they visit Independence Square outside Parliament.
National Festival of Kites
The National Festival of Kites is wonderful annual event held to inspire the creativity of the Sri Lankan people, children and adults alike. Hordes of people gather near Mount Lavinia Beach to marvel at a sky filled with kites, which are made from an assortment of colorful sarees, dried leaves and other interesting finds.
