Maha Shivaratri

One of the key Hindu festivals, Maha Shivaratri is dedicated to Lord Shiva and in Nepal is celebrated at the Pashupati Temple just outside Kathmandu. The passion of the devotees ensures a moving and spectacular experience as people cover their bodies in ashes and pray until they fall into a trancelike state. Prayers and ceremonies will take place deep into the night.

Holi

This ancient Hindu celebration is also known as the Festival of Colors. Towards the end of the weeklong merry-making and celebrating comes plenty of paint; everyone coats everyone else with vibrant colors creating quiet a spectacle of jubilation.

Nava Varsha

Nava Varsha is Nepal’s exuberant New Year celebration. It falls in the second week of April every year, and is a national holiday throughout the country. Celebrations are characterized by feasts of food and family reunions.
