Tour Overview
After the exhilaration of standing on top of Africa, there is no better way to come back down to earth (and sea level!) than to dip your toes in the azure blue Indian Ocean off Zanzibar. Famed for its historical role as a slave trading post and subsequent spice industry, Zanzibar is a perfect place to round off your African adventure. The Sun - recommends Kilimanjaro with Exodus (28 February 2009).
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1Depart London on the scheduled overnight service of Kenyan Airways to Kilimanjaro, with a brief stopover in Nairobi.
Day 2-3-4-5-6-7
A sustained descent with wide views across the moorland takes us into the lovely forest around Mandara (2,700 m.), the first stopping place on the Marangu route. The trail continues through semi-tropical vegetation - monkeys are often seen - to the National Park gate at Marangu (1,830 m.). A short transfer to hotel for a well-earned rest and a much-needed shower! A beer by the pool is also an attractive option.
Day 8
Morning transfer from our hotel in Marangu to Kilimanjaro Airport for our flight to Zanzibar by small aircraft. On arrival at lunchtime, we transfer by private minibus to Jambiani (a distance of about 50 km.) on the east coast of Zanzibar, arriving early afternoon. The remainder of the day is free to relax on the beach and enjoy a barbecue.
Day 9-10
The morning is free to relax or explore, or even just grab those last minute souvenirs. An early afternoon transfer to Zanzibar Airport for our flight back to UK. Those not flying back with the group leave us after breakfast in Stone Town.
Day 11
Free morning; afternoon end Stone Town.
