Chinese New Year!
February 4-12, 2005
Hong Kong is a 21st-century city with a palpable buzz of energy and excitement. It's also Asia's capital of culture and cool, with restaurants, nightlife and shopping that rival any in the world. Yet, this modern metropolis thrives on traditions both British and Chinese.
Never is this fusion of contrasts more magical, than during Chinese New Year, where multi-storey neon lighting displays decorate harbor-front skyscrapers and dragons and lions dance in the streets as they have for decades. What's more, Hong Kong is the place to celebrate the Year of the Rooster, for the festivities will be the most extravagant ever.

Starting this November 26th, Hong Kong transforms into a fairytale "Santa Town" when WinterFest arrives in Statue Square in the heart of Hong Kong's Central district. WinterFest runs through January 2nd, with the city aglow with lights and festive decorations.
A huge Christmas tree glamorously decorated with hundreds of ornaments and garland, towers over the square. The lights from this tree, over 100 feet tall, are visible from both sides of Victoria Harbor. This is your opportunity to photograph the renowned Hong Kong harbor skyline alive with the decorations of the season. Other photo opportunities abound. The giant LED display at the Santa Post Office will announce your message to the world.
Looking for the perfect place to propose to that special someone? The Santa Church or Mistletoe Corner are the perfect setting. And don't forget, the Santa Lodge is a fun place for gaming and makes the perfect backdrop for your Christmas photo.
Every night a giant music box performing a sound and light show every half-hour, filling the air with the sound of WinterFest while you stroll through Statue Square. Extend your stroll to the pedestrian subway connecting Statue Square and the Star Ferry. It becomes "Jingle Bells Boulevard" with glistening decorations and performers nightly. Or, stroll through the trendy restaurant area of Lan Kwai Fong, and SoHo, and enjoy the festive atmosphere as Christmas and New Year's Eve draw near.
Many shops and restaurants are providing attractive discounts and special offers when you present your "Hong Kong WinterFest Passport to Amazing Offers." Restaurant winners of the "Best of the Best Culinary Awards" are also offering special menus at this time. Visitors lucky enough to attend the award-winning chefs' cooking demonstrations in Towngas Cooking Centre will receive the secret recipes of the signature dishes that have made their restaurants famous.
