The Burley Manor Hotel is the jewel in the crown of the New Forest and has enjoyed many regal connections throughout its long history - Parts of the estate were probably laid out in Saxon times and must have existed before the Doomsday Book was compiled in 1086 - Later Burley was a Royal Manor for nearly 200 years - The current building was erected in 1852 but it was a further 80 years before the house became a hotel when a restaurant and bedroom wing were added - During World War 2 the hotel was requisitioned and used as a military headquarters by Lord Montgomery and his chiefs of staff -
