From the airport turn right to Tartu Road. Keep driving from Tartu Road until you see on the left hand side Stockmann store house and the crossing street Liivalaia. At the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia embraced independence enthusiastically and in less than two decades has undergone a transformation from lumbering communist society to gleaming example of forward-thinking transitional economy. Geography Estonia is the most northerly of the three Baltic Republics and is bordered to the north and west by the Baltic Sea, to the east by the Russian Federation and to the south by Latvia.
