Top 10 Whitefish Winter Adventures
Vacations are all about having fun and even trying something new. Winter visitors to Whitefish know about the great skiing, but for the non-skiers, or those taking a day off, there is so much more to do in the winter.
The Quiet of Glacier National Park
Whitefish is only 25 miles from Glacier National Park, a World Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve, and the world’s first International Peace Park. The beauty of these unspoiled mountains creates an international destination that attracts people from all over the world — most of them in July and August.
In the winter, skiers and snowshoers have the run of the park. Snowmobiling is prohibited here, so quiet abounds. Glacier’s Going-to-the-Sun Road has been called "the most beautiful piece of mountain road in the world" for good reason. A drive on this engineering marvel that spans 50-miles through the park’s wild interior, is a highlight for summer visitors. But in the quiet of winter, this busy road gets very still and turns into a snow-covered trail.
Glacier Adventure Guides provides a guided, interpretive Glacier National Park cross-country ski or snowshoeing experience for all ages and abilities.
