Lhasa’s ‘Yoghurt’ festival is a highlight of the religious year. A large thangka is unfurled behind Drepung Monastery amidst clouds of incense and cheers from local pilgrims, before the crowds descend to the Norbulingka (summer palace of the Dalai Lamas) for epic picnics and performances of traditional Tibetan opera.
