In December 2010 it was announced that Qatar will be hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Qatar competed against the likes of England and was eventually successful in winning the bid to host the 2022 Soccer World Cup. This will be the first world cup hosted by an Arab nation. Top teams from across the globe will compete for the coveted Jules Rimet Trophy. Some of the top teams in the world include Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Uruguay. The desert country has plans for air conditioned stadiums as well as stadiums built on reclaimed ‘islands’ in the Arabian Gulf.
