Cheung Chau Bun Festival

Each year the small island of Cheung Chau hosts the popular Cheung Chau Bun Festival which draws visitors from miles around. A customary Chinese celebration that’€˜s seen all over the Asian world, huge towers are constructed out of bamboo poles to which white buns are attached, covering the entire outer shell of the structure. Although the festival officially lasts for four or five days, nothing really happens until the final day when the celebrations and excitement reach fever pitch. Participants climb the bun towers, dislodging the buns as they go and throwing to the amassed crowds below.
