General Info). An example: for a British national traveling to Turkmenistan for a 10-day tourist holiday, the fee would be US$46, processed in 10 working days; or US$500 for a 12 month visa. (Note: Payment must be in US Dollars if applying at the embassy in the UK.) A visa issued at Ashgabat Airport on arrival costs US$71 and is valid for 10 days only.

The land border between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has been closed. Security has been strengthened on the other land borders.
Turkmenistan has toughened regulations for entering the country. Entry into the country is now permitted only if a visa has been obtained earlier. Travelers must not overstay their visas. Travelers should also register with the State Service of Turkmenistan for the Registration of Foreign Nationals if staying for more than three days.
Travelers should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets including places frequented by foreigners.
Travelers should carry an identity document at all times. Requests to produce proof of identity, for example by the police, are frequent.

Health CareMedical insurance, including cover for emergency repatriation, is highly recommended. Medical facilities are poor, high levels of disease have been reported. Travelers are advised to take a well-equipped first aid kit with them containing basic medicines and any prescriptions that they may need.
