Phuket is one of the prettiest places in Asia to see in the New Year, a great celebration that attracts a good mix of visitors from all over the world. In the build-up during the day, visitors can while away the hours exploring the food, arts and crafts markets or watching handicraft and fruit carving demonstrations. Come the evening, the atmosphere heats up with a live music festival before the crowd counts down to the stroke of midnight when a large fireworks display kicks off the New Year.

Getting there:
Air: Flying time is about 1 hour 20 minutes on the numerous daily services from Bangkok to Phuket.
Road: Phuket is about 800km (500 miles) southwest of Bangkok. Highway 4 connects Bangkok to Phuket. The park is a huge area of reclaimed land outside Phuket Town.
Bus: Numerous services leave Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal for Phuket each day.
