4/18/2009 - 4/19/2009Songkran and Thai Raman Flag Ceremony
Various,
Thailand
Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year which is celebrated all over Thailand with religious services, ceremonies and the famous water fights during which no passer-by is safe from a soaking. Gangs, often in the back of open-top vans, scour the streets looking for victims in this good natured and exuberant festival. The New Year Songkran celebrations take place in April with events continuing for a full week afterwards and ending with the Thai-Raman flag ceremony which sees villages produce their own flags which are then used to decorate temples around the town.
