Zurich, Switzerland Held each year on the second weekend in September, approximately 4,000 boys and girls from Zurich aged 12 to 16 take part in a marksmanship contest. Competitors are eliminated in each round and the winners in the male and female categories are crowned King and Queen of the tournament. Up to about one third of the entrants win prizes, choosing from a huge selection donated by local industries and businesses. The festival dates back to the 17th century when it was used as a way of encouraging young boys to practice their marksmanship during the summer holidays. In 1991, the competition was opened up to female entrants and now includes a fairground with rides and a large market. Themes: Kids' Stuff , Exhibitions , Sport , Entertainment Hours: TBC.
