A varied theatre and dance festival, the Geneva Batie Woods Festival is named after the The Bois de la Batie (Batie Woods) where it used to be staged. Now the festival has increased in popularity and moved to 16 or so concert venues in the city itself. Each year about 40,000 people attend some 200 varied, distinctive and innovative performances. Meanwhile, on the fringe, there are many social events and cafe bar evenings dedicated to the festival. Each year the organisers assemble an inventive programme that includes surprise events which are announced at short notice and always generate a buzz of excitement.
