The world's oldest open-air museum, on an island near the centre of Stockholm, consists of historic buildings set in parkland, with a zoo for further amusement. Each year on 6 June, the Swedish Royal Family arrive to celebrate National Day, a patriotic occasion celebrated mainly by nationals, but also offering much in the way of pageantry for the tourist to enjoy. Flag waving, speeches, songs and festivities are all on the agenda.
