A Caribbean performing arts tradition that dates back to the days of slavery, Masquerade is an important part of St Lucia's cultural identity. Rich in symbolism and always carrying important messages regarding social values and traditions, each year the Masquerade event attempts to revive the cultural tradition to preserve the art form for future generations. It is a colourful time to be in St Lucia when many participating in the event are dressed in elaborate costumes.
