Torremolinos celebrates a fair which includes a day in honour of its patron saint, San Miguel Arcangel, on 29 September. Increasing numbers of tourists join the local people for this festive week, when there are events and entertainments in the centre of the resort during the day, and fairground rides, bars and clubs at the showground (Recinto Ferial) at night. The high spot of the week is the Romeria, a type of pilgrimage with horses and gypsy caravans, some of them drawn by oxen. Many people wear traditional Andalucian costume for this trek to the pinewoods of Los Manantiales, where up to 200,000 people enjoy picnics and music in rustic surroundings.
