2/01/2008 - 2/01/2008Seville Marathon
Seville,
Spain
The course of the 42.2km (26.1 miles) Seville Marathon crosses the Guadalquivir River at four different bridges on its mazy circuit around the centre of the city. Most of the route lies on the south bank, with many sharp turns around the streets and avenues of the monumental centre. The start and finish, though, of this mainly flat course, are on the north side, at the Olympic Stadium. The day before the race, runners get their traditional pasta lunch at Palenque, and other peripheral events include a closing party after the race and a runner's fair held over the two days before. The event itself is the big attraction, for runners and spectators alike, and a festive mood fills the city and its many bars, with its roads cleared of traffic
