First held in 1989, the annual Dance Umbrella at Wits Theatre in Johannesburg presents an eclectic programme of contemporary dance choreography. Performances range from community art collaborations to full blown shows by some of the leading companies from around the world. The event has built up a fine reputation over the years and as such is now regarded as a stepping stone for South Africa's young choreographers to move onto bigger projects on an international stage
