11/01/2009 - 11/30/2009Singapore River Regatta
Singapore,
Singapore
Up to 100 Dragon Boats take to the water on the Singapore River as part of the annual Singapore River Regatta. Blending skill, strength and stamina with deeply-rooted religious and cultural beliefs, the regatta is a popular event that is swathed in ceremony and rituals. The pace of each boat is set by the rhythmic beating of a drummer who sits in each boat. More about showing religious devotion than about who can complete the course in the fastest time, the regatta is accompanied by religious ceremonies, rituals and praying.
