2/20/2009 - 2/24/2009Lisbon Carnival
Lisbon,
Portugal
Portugal may have exported carnival to the New World but the vibrancy and colour of Rio return home to Lisbon each year - in a dazzling show of street parades, floats and parties. Carnival traditionally celebrates the ending of winter and the beginning of Lent but has become more of a fun thing in Lisbon, with the jollity extending through much of a month and building to a climax with the "Entrudo" event on the final day. The best place to join in the celebrations is at the Parque Nacoes, a vast riverfront entertainment complex with exceptional aquarium, tower and cable car, built for Expo '98. Carnival parades also take place in Lisbon City and along the coast at the resorts of Estoril and Cascais
