12/24/2009 - 12/24/2009Christmas Eve
Countrywide,
Poland
Christmas is a fantastic celebration throughout this predominantly Christian country. Unlike in most western countries, the main festivities take place on Christmas Eve which is also known as 'Wigilia'. It is customary to enjoy a lavish 12-course meal with friends, families and loved ones. Traditionally, the table would always be set with one extra place in remembrance of lost loved ones. After the meal, presents are exchanged and many attend a midnight mass service at their local church.
