Held on the last Saturday before Christmas Eve, the annual San Fernando Giant Lantern Festival is a popular event that really gets the city in the mood for the festive season. Made from paper, wood and coloured glass, the huge lanterns are mounted onto trucks and paraded through the streets of San Fernando accompanied by marching bands and dance troupes. This is a hugely popular event that sees San Fernando's streets and squares filled with onlookers who come to watch the colourful procession.
