Philadelphia is home to one of Amtrak’s busiest stations, at 30th Street, which is served by the ‘Acela Express’ service linking Washington, DC (journey time – 1 hour 35 minutes) with New York City (journey time - 1 hour) and Boston (journey time - 5 hours). Free transfers to the urban transportation system, run by
SEPTA, are available to
Amtrak passengers (request upon ticket purchase). Pittsburgh has daily

Getting Around Towns and CitiesIn
Philadelphia, the

trolleys (streetcars),
subways and elevated
railways. The distinctive
PHLASH buses connect most of the city’s major attractions. Exact change is required on all services.
Pittsburgh has an efficient network of buses serving the various districts. The
PAT subway service is rather modest but is free in downtown Pittsburgh.
