7/01/2009 - 7/31/2009Pugwash Gathering of the Clans
Pugwash,
Canada
On the north shore of Nova Scotia, on a beautiful natural harbour at the mouth of the Pugwash River, the village of Pugwash has celebrated its Scottish ancestry with a Gathering of the Clans every year since 1951. Early festivals concentrated on Highland dancing and boat races. Highland pipe bands were soon added to the roster along with individual piping and drumming competitions. Street parades came later, and the Pugwash event can now boast a full range of traditional events including heavyweight competitions, lobster dinners, craft exhibitions, musical entertainment, street theatre, parades and a fireworks display to bring the day to a spectacular close.
