There are over 40 co-operatives in the Northwest Territories specializing in handicrafts, furs, fisheries, print shops and retailing. First Nations handicrafts and footwear are made locally for sale. The often higher cost of goods (an increase of up to 20% on the rest of Canada) is due to the supply and distribution charges caused by the large distances involved.
