Billed as 'the Southern Hemisphere's biggest, brightest and most colourful garden event', the Ellerslie International Flower Show takes place each November at the 5.5 hectare (14 acre) show site at the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens in Manukau City. The show is attended by some 65,000 people from New Zealand and abroad, to witness lush floral displays and plant sculptures, and to shop at fruit stalls, vegetable markets and plant stalls. Experts are on hand to offer tips to green-fingered enthusiasts and aside from the horticultural theme there are also concerts and food and drink on offer. On the final Sunday of the event, the plants and building materials of the show ground are sold off so is a great place to get discounted goods.
