It is all about trout. The wild Nelson Brown Trout, to be precise, and those who wish to catch them. The "One Fly" is a friendly competition where winning is secondary to camaraderie and conviviality. Teams of four anglers use a single selected fly for each of three days of fishing. A guide leads pairs of anglers onto selected stretches of river in the Marlborough region where they catch and release as many fish as they can over a six-hour fishing period. Points are awarded for each fish caught and released, and the team that accumulates the most points takes first place. Fly tying, free casting tuition and photographic competitions also form a part of the festival. Wine tasting and tasty food are promised as well
