Organised chaos descends onto the streets of Christchurch with the arrival of the World Buskers Festival, a non-stop rollercoaster of thrills and laughs. More than 50 artists put together 35 separate acts, each of which could be loosely defined as street theatre. Mime, comedy, magic, contortionism, comedy music and all kinds of situation clowning are involved, with input from an international cast of talent. More than 400 street and stage shows take place during the daytime, while the evening programme includes fringe and club events. Visitors are advised to bring a pair of comfortable shoes, a sense of humour and a pocket full of change.
