Each November, the beautiful Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in Socorro provides a sanctuary for crane birds who return here each year on their annual migration. The park celebrates their return with the Festival of the Cranes which aims to educate visitors about the birds and their natural habitat. The festival attracts a mix of birdwatchers, film crews, school groups and interested members of the public and tours and guided walks usually set off early into the refuge to catch a glimpse of these magnificent birds.
