Launched in 2005, the Amsterdam Literary Festival aims to put the city on the literary map. It features talks by authors together with workshops, a literary tour, high tea and a closing party with live music and entertainment. Besides headline appearances by writers from abroad, the festival showcases the work of many authors and poets from the city's thriving international writing community. Watch out for a Books, Boat and Booze Cruise - hosted by a leading author, a two-hour cruise through Amsterdam's canals, along the IJ to the Eastern Docklands and back on a beautiful classic wooden boat.
