4/01/2009 - 4/30/2009National Museum Weekend
Amsterdam,
Netherlands
Amsterdam is well blessed with museums, with many of them being grouped around the Museumplein on the south side of the centre. Museums here, and in the rest of Holland, can be visited free, or for reduced rates, during one weekend in April. Not to be missed is Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum with its collection of Renaissance and medieval art and Dutch masters. The Vincent Van Gogh museum would also figure near the top of most people's lists and, for modern art, the Stedelijk. The Van Loon Museum and Dutch Resistance Museum are among many others. There are also special events such as films, slide shows, guided tours, demonstrations, workshops and treasure hunts for children during the weekend, and opening hours are often extended.
