Gouda,
Netherlands
Gouda by Candle Light (Gouda bij Kaarslicht) is a delightfully evocative and seasonal evening in which all electric lights are extinguished and the historic Market Square is illuminated by the flickering glow of countless candles. Around this occasion, a programme of Christmas events takes place in various venues throughout the old town. These include local carol concerts and musical interludes held in the afternoon and evening, in churches and in museums. The candles are the main attraction, though, along with the lighting of the Christmas Tree and accompanied by the singing of massed choirs on the square, and the pealing of bells in a special carillon concert
