Gaudeamus Music Week is a competition for classical composers aged up to 30 years of age. An internationally renowned panel of judges selects the compositions for the festival and, after listening to the performances of the selected scores during Music Week, they award the Gaudeamus Prize (more than €4,000) for the best composition. The winner is then commissioned to put forward an ensemble work, to be performed at the following year's festival. Thus the Gaudeamus Music Week not only appraises audiences of the new music being produced by young people, but also actively supports and encourages emerging talent
