Countrywide,
Mexico
Known as "Ano Nuevo" in Mexican, New Year is welcomed with great gusto in towns, cities and villages throughout Mexico with many celebrations and events continuing until dawn on New Year's Day. Traditional celebrations include live music, dancing, fine food and incredibly noisy fireworks displays. One tradition that is still observed in many parts of the country is the eating of 12 grapes - one with each stroke of the chiming bell at midnight, which is said to bring good luck for the coming year. Celebrations in Mexico City and the coastal city of Acapulco are particularly popular with visitors.
