Triathlons are popular in Malta and the discipline is enthusiastically supported by both athletes and sports fans. The Salina Bay Triathlon is one of the first in the season and tests the strength and stamina of the competitors as they battle it out over a 1.5km (0.9 miles) swim, 40km (24.9 miles) cycle and 10km (6.2 miles) run.
