Billed as the 'world's toughest mountain race', the annual Climbathon is not for the faint-hearted as competitors race their way to the summit of Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia. Kinabalu towers 4,095m (13,500ft) into the sky and usually takes about two days to ascend; Climbathon competitors aim to cover the 21km (13 miles) course is under three hours. The Climbathon is the deciding race to determine the ultimate Champion of the 7-series Federation for Sport at Altitude's (FSA) Skyrunning World Championship.

Getting there:
Road: The race starts and finishes at the Kinabalu Park headquarters (Timpohan Gate), some 85km (53 miles) east of Kota Kinabalu
Bus: The park can be reached by bus from the city bus station (allow for about three hours) or by taxi or hire car (less than two hours)
