All Souls Day is an Anglican and Roman Catholic occasion during which many Lithuanians visit churches and cemeteries to light candles and lay floral wreaths in remembrance of the dead. On this day, it is said that the souls of loved ones return to Earth to ask the living to pray for them and the candles are lit to show them the way. It is traditionally quite a sombre day and many Lithuanians get together with friends, families and loved ones for a big meal.
