The Beirut International Film Festival aims to encourage interest in films and serve as a platform for young talent from the Middle East. It also aims to develop co-productions between Lebanon and the Arab and international communities. The Festival screens full length features as well as short films in 35mm, 16mm films and Betacam format. Out of competition international films are also screened, and Question and Answer sessions with directors and filmmakers are an integral part of the event.

Screening of the films is held in the theaters of the Sofil Empire and Concorde Planete. The opening and closing films are screened at the UNESCO Palace.
