    Warning
Most visits to Kazakhstan are trouble-free.

Travelers should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate international terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.

Visitors may travel to most places in Kazakhstan, but travel to any "closed territories" or secure areas requires advance permission from the relevant authorities. Some military/restricted areas are not clearly marked so care should be taken when traveling away from normal routes. Visitors should not cross the border into or out of Kazakhstan illegally as the absence of entry/exit stamps will cause problems (such as possible detention or fines) when leaving or re-entering the country.

Travelers should ensure that their inoculations are up to date.

This advice is based on information provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK. It is correct at time of publishing. As the situation can change rapidly, visitors are advised to contact the following organizations for the latest travel advice:

    Health Care
There is a large network of hospitals, emergency centers and pharmacies. The largest include the Central Hospital, the Maternity and Childhood Institute Clinic and the Medical Teaching Institute Clinic in Almaty, and the Spinal Center and Hospital of Rehabilitation Treatment in Karaganda. However, standards within the public healthcare system have declined significantly since the Soviet era. It is hard to ascertain the level of expertise of the doctors, and visitors cannot rely on the availability of western medicines. Comprehensive medical insurance is strongly advised.

    Note
    * A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travelers over one year of age arriving within six days from infected areas.
