3/03/2008 - 3/03/2008Doll Festival
Nationwide,
Japan
The annual Doll Festival (Hinamatsuri) is a day of celebrations devoted to young girls. Most families with girls will hold some kind of special event or party to pray for the safety and health of their daughters. Originally, the dolls were quite simple affairs made out of grass and scraps of old fabric and were set adrift on rivers. But the tradition has moved with the times, and now department stores have huge displays of Hinamatsuri dolls with lucky girls usually receiving a new doll each year.
