1/12/2010 - 1/12/2010Coming of Age Day
Countrywide,
Japan
Everybody in Japan who has reached the age of 20 in the previous 12 months celebrates their coming of age on this day. Twenty is the minimum legal age for voting, drinking, and smoking. The young adults and their families will probably visit the local shrine in their best clothes. They may then attend a rally organised by the local city government, where they may or may not listen to reams of sound advice from their elders. Coming of Age Day (Seijin no hi) is a public holiday throughout Japan.
