11/15/2009 - 11/15/2009Shichi-go-san (Children's Shrine Visiting Day)
Nationwide,
Japan
'Shichi Go San' means the odd luck numbers 'Seven Five Three'. Prayers are offered for the health and growth of girls aged three and seven, and boys aged three and five. It is not a public holiday, but at the weekend closest to 15 November the children put on their kimonos and visit the local shrine. They get long sweets in bags decorated with cranes and turtles, symbols of longevity.
