One of the two high points of the Kamakura Festival, Yabusame is an exhibition of samurai skills in using a bow and arrow on horseback to shoot at targets in quick succession. The great cavalry general Yoritomo introduced this exercise in 1187

Getting there:
Rail: JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo Shinagawa is 1 hour to Kamakura. For getting around Kamakura, use the picturesque coastal single track Enoshima Electric train (Eno-den).
Foot: From Kamakura Station you are already in the shrine precincts. From the station's east exit turn left at traffic lights and you will see a 6m (20ft) torii or gateway flanked by stone dogs. The shrine is a short walk from there.
