7/01/2009 - 7/31/2009Noantri Festival
Rome,
Italy
Trastevere district, an old and compact area across the river from the centre, was where the artisans lived and worked. Today, the picturesque streets are home to galleries, workshops, a lively restaurant, nightlife and alternative scene. The statue of the Vergine del Carmine is removed from the church of Sant' Agata with great ceremony, to be paraded through the streets of the Trastevere to San Crisogno, where it remains on display for eight days. This essentially religious festival is accompanied by secular events such as concerts, sports competitions and various other attractions, ending with the inevitable display of fireworks.
