3/22/2008 - 3/22/2008Purim
Countrywide,
Israel
Celebrated by Jewish communities throughout the world, Purim is a holy festival that is characterised by parties, carnivals and theatrical performances. It is a springtime festival that welcomes the end of the long winter, but it also remembers a biblical event when Jewish people living in Persia were saved from persecution by the courage of a young Jewish woman called Esther. So at this time, many Jewish people read the book of Esther and offer prayers in thanks for her bravery. Many school children also stage fun plays re-enacting the stories of Esther. It is essentially a fun festival and a time to be with friends, families and loved ones
